Leah Burgess is a TEAM scholarship recipient and a student at Howard University Divinity school pursuing a dual degree program, with hopes to graduate with an MSW & MDiv by 2023.
In October 2020 she was asked to support the Religion department at Takoma Academy by serving as the Bible 2 instructor; in addition to serving as Chaplain, she now teaches Bible for the sophomore class (3 classes that meet twice a week).
Leah along with several students started a podcast that provides daily content during chapel worship experience. This is part of her chaplaincy/ field education experience for her MDiv/MSW. A link to the podcast can be found here.
Leah says: “I am also pursuing nuanced ventures that help people who serve on the front lines to explore rest models, and inspiring my students at Takoma Academy to stand up for biblical justice and service”
Her favorite Bible verse can be found in Micah 6:8. "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God."
She celebrated 11 years of marriage on New Year’s Eve 2020 and mentions her children continue adjusting to virtual learning.
